Bilstein shock recall and possible cause

Someone on reddit found that the rubber boot on Bilstein shocks is potentially causing the bottom rust-out.

Curious if anyone else has noticed this?

Obviously not related to anything from work (1. I don’t know, and 2. couldn’t talk about it if I did), but I was under my car recently and noticed my front ones have some suspicious surface rust and they don’t have covers. So not sure. Take that information what you will. I’m not a materials expert.

My fronts FWIW. Again no idea if this is normal. Remember the recall is only on the back so my assumption is this is normal.

Interesting. It wouldn’t hurt to drill/cut a couple drain holes in the bottom of that thing and see if it helps. My original plan was to put the Bilstein 6112’s on all the way around at about 50k. Now I might just do the front and run it back with the recall replacements on the rear.
