Had been dealing with a surging speedometer needle for some time which affected cruise control as well. Replaced the PSOM which needed to be replaced anyway due to leaking capacitors but concern was still there. Suspected an intermittent RABS signal current installed sensor seemed ok but replaced the sensor anyway. The 8.8 rear axle has a sensor on top of the housing. Still surged between 35-45 and above 65mph. I had previously rebuilt the rear axle with a Detroit locker and 4.56 gears. Thought it was possibly not picking up the tone ring properly. Ordered a VSS relocation kit from Desolate Motorsports, re-routed and added some length to the sensor harness and zip tied everything away. Calibrated my cluster to the new tone ring and everything is working perfectly now. I left the original sensor in place in the axle to keep the hole plugged and sealed the connector end of the sensor with silicon in the even I have to resort back to the old sensor on the trail it’s just a matter of moving the harness and plugging it back in.
