I have a 2.3L 2-Door 2022 Bronco Badlands, Non-Squatch with the KO2s; for Christmas I gave to myself the Ford Performance ProCal Tune and Oil Separator. I installed the tune yesterday and it was pretty painless.
As the internet says it no longer “holds” your previous Start / Stop setting (and you can’t change that), it also no longer has the Rev Matching feature on the Manaul (which I have). Otherwise in 2 drives it seems much peppier and really wakes up the truck.
The first 20 minutes of driving Start / Stop would not enable, I assume the tune had to run a bunch of engine on emission tests before enabling Start / Stop. But now it works normally. There is a noticeable difference between Normal and Eco now. Eco used to feel slightly “lazy” due to the throttle pedal mapping being less responsive. Now it feels down right “lethargic” next to Normal. Which is good, I guess, you will never confuse yourself being in Eco.
I’ve been driving in Normal with 4A enabled the last two months after basically being in Eco the first 24 months always (with 4A manually enabled after switching last Winter). My MPG (via the computer which is about 1 MPG over real life) has been 18.8 lifetime (including off-roading tanks) and over the summer it was 19.5 in on-road driving (typically). Since I switched to Normal last month and turned on 4A this has dropped slightly to 18.5 (again typically). I’ll be watching the next month and see what it does. Honestly I expect it to at least split the difference and hit 19.
But the driving impressions are good, I feel like its as spirited now as my old Focus ST was. Surprisingly I feel it pulls in second gear as hard as my Explorer ST did overall, even being down 70 peak HP. That is I get to 10-15 MPH, shift to second and punch it, and it GOES until it almost hits red line at about 50 when I shift again. Once I get some more miles under my belt I can post updates.
But well worth the cost (Lethal Performance had a sale after Christmas for $615 versus the MSRP of $850, I think they normally sell it for $695 which is still a deal)
Interesting. It no longer retains the start/stop disable setting on an engine off/on cycle? I have been running the FP tune for my 2.3 24’ badlands since soon after they put out the tune earlier last spring/summer and it was in there then. I haven’t plugged the tuner in lately to look for updates.
When they got CARB and EPA approval for the new model year they removed both those features.
I know from work that CARB is an SOB about Start / Stop. Any module, even in a failed state which can inhibit Start / Stop (or on electric cars effect range) is now considered an “Emissions/Powertrain Module.” The part I work on made some changes to avoid this on ICE but we have to implement things for EV and certian PHEVs now due to CARB.
The Rev Matching, the internet seems to think it was the EPA, but would not surprise me if its them and CARB because it changes something to be uncertified and that isn’t allowed.
No it mounts right up top. There is a bracket on the front of the engine some vent lines are attached to, you remove them, slide a bracket on some nuts, and then pop the hose mounts back on then the separator mounts to that. Hoses are located right there, top one on the engine cover is relatively easy to break and remove. The lower hose is a bit more difficult. I’ll see if I can post a picture from my phone.
It’s been very cold, and I’ve been driving exclusively in 4A, but it seems like going regular speeds (under 75 MPH) that the MPG is better. However with the extra power I’ve been going 80-85 more and the MPG up there is not so good.
