New guy looking to wheel!

hey everyone! i’m new around here and looking to meet some people and get wheeling. I bought my bronco (sammy the samsquanch) about 3 months ago, and I’ve loved every minute. last weekend i was at holly oaks for motor city bronco fest and got my first taste of offroad. if anyone out there is down to go wheeling, and is ok with showing someone the ropes, i’d love some folks to get out there with. thanks!

What part of the state are you from? There is usually a ride every other month, but definitely more in the summer and fall. Unfortunately, the Facebook group is by far the most active spot to see what’s going on and meeting other Bronco owners, but we try and share info here as well.

Southeast Michigan, suppose I should have put that in the post

I don’t really facebook, but would love to participate, and attend a ride. After holly oaks I’m jonesing for more.

I’m planning to hit silver lake this summer, and will probably plan it around the birthday bash. Gotta get a little less green first so i can take advantage of those sand dunes.

I’m so glad when I hear another person who isn’t on Facebook. A lot of stuff doesn’t make it here to the forums unfortunately. I keep hoping but I keep getting disappointed. This is usually an issue for any group which starts on Facebook and tries to out grow it, the only way is to pretty much turn off posting on the Facebook group and force people to go to the public forums or whatever, but then that might cause you to lose people.

But having two locations is really untenable, its crap or get off the pot. The forums need life and if that means nuking the Facebook posting/chat function then that’s what has to happen.

But that’s me the old computer guy ranting about social media and its ills (I miss Usenet…). Maybe one day I’ll meet up with people for a ride. Drummond and stuff up north is just not practical to me, and Holly Oaks can be a bit crowded.

I usually hit the trails around Gladwin or West Branch most weekends although most times it’s a spur of the moment thing. I suppose I should invite people.

I’ll try to post some rides up here

so…y’all wanna wheel? as long as youre ok with showing around a noob.

who needs facebook?

U725M7, i’m also an old(ish) computer guy that doesnt trust social media. systems architect in IT.

I try to get to the Mounds in Flint every so often. It’s not super huge though. I’d like to do some light offroading on trails, but does anyone know what’s actually close to SE Michigan?

I also work for Ford, so I don’t really talk about my job here, I do Steering Software including the one on Bronco… So that’s fun.

I also found Bundy Hill, and Holly Oaks isn’t far from the mounds.

Thats pretty awesome you get to work on their steering software. i tried programming, but it was kind of a grind. turns out IT is a grind too. thus my need to get outdoors.

I also like hiking, and want to try and get back into mountain biking.

Thankfully I don’t actually write code, our suppliers do. I do specifications, review test reports, sit in design reviews, and various other engineering related software tasks. I have to be able to read and debug code (which I do rarely only if something has an issue) but most of my job is writing and reviewing documents related to how the software works. Let’s put it this way, if someone is in steering works with Ford and reads/implements requirements they’ve seen my name or know who I am.

I too also need to mountain bike more, lol. Got a carrier for my Bronco hitch.

To set the record straight, the club started on B6G, then migrated to Facebook and exploded (from about 400 to over 4k.). Members were very resistant to email registration and B6G had issues of its own for clubs, communication and posting events. I do not like Facebook for a host of reasons, but forums have just lost favor, unless you enjoy bashing and trolls (B6G is a great example). Jake C maintains the forums and is a founding member of the club, so he keeps it going for an alternative outlet. I am no longer on the board, maybe @BillT or @ChristalakaSvanhildr can try and keep the events current and drive more traffic to this format. I know I tried consistently to get people to use it, without much success., so I totally understand how it gets overlooked.

What hitch rack did you go with? I have looked at a few, honestly, more than i want to spend at the moment, i have a list of other things i want to do to the bronco, and a second vehicle i can mount the bike on. but eventually, i really want a nice hitch mount rack, they seem so much more secure than the trunk rack i have on my honda.

im not opposed to facebook for checking out events, and stuff like that. i just dont post on there. ive kind of learned to accept that it may mean i dont socialize as much in general. either way, i appreciate that yall are around and doing events, and that i may get to attend one at some point. otherwise, id never get to learn and have the confidence to get out there!

B6G is a pretty terribly run forum, as are the related ones (like Ranger 6G). There are good ones, but yea you can’t run a club out of a larger forum.

It’s a Thule T1 I’ve had forever.

Since we’re a non-profit, I wanted a place where members (or anyone really) could come together online without ads or profit motives.

With the “enshitification” of many websites, I wanted a neutral space.

On the main website (michiganbroncos.club) is a listing of the major trail sites in Michigan. It does need to be curated a bit, but is kinda up to date.

In the Detroit area myself, and often looking for rides myself. Welcome!!

thanks fellow IT guy!

Hey all! I am also new to the Bronco crew and have not done any off-roading driving. Picked up a '25 Badlands about 3 weeks ago and looking for anyone that may be around.

Live in Northern Michigan (ironically not at Bronco the Mac) but if anyone comes up this way would love to meet up and get some off-roading and some tips and tricks. Actually heading to get my ORV tag and trail permit tomorrow!

(PS also an IT Guy…I see a trend here)
